Organic Cacao Nibs
Cacao nibs (Theobroma cacao) come from the seed found within the fruit of the cacao plant. Native to the rainforests of South America, cacao is the main ingredient of chocolate. The nibs are obtained from the seeds of the cacao through a process of toasting and grinding. Nothing is added, they are the raw pieces of the pure inner seed.
Cacao nibs have a pleasant deep chocolate flavor which can be described as slightly bitter and nutty. They are a rich source of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals (magnesium, potassium, selenium, zinc, copper, and iron) and fiber. Cacao nibs are sugar-free, low calorie, and low fat.
They contain theobromine, which stimulates a slow release of energy and may assist in cardiovascular health. Cacao also contains anandamide, a neurotransmitter that blocks feelings of pain and depression, which can elevate mood. Cacao nibs contain phenylethylamine, which is a chemical found in the brain when people are in love.
